St Josephs (Carlton Cluster) North Yorkshire Champions!

St Josephs primary school beat off tough competition to be crowned North Yorkshire Sportshall Athletics Champions for 2011.  In total 195 primary schools took part in this competition which sees pupils competing across a variety of track and field events.  St Josephs qualified by winning their primary cluster competition and then the Barlby SSP final before competing against schools from the 8 other SSP areas.  Andy Clay (PDM) said "Sportshall athletics is a fantastic event.  The SSCO team really enjoy running the cluster and SSP rounds and it's brilliant to see a team from our partnership doing so well at a North Yorkshire level.  Well done St Josephs!"

What do you remember about physical education and sport when you were at school?

Cross country runs on freezing cold days or gym lessons in your vest and pants! There will be the fortunate few who remember fun and laughter in PE lessons that made you want to continue to play sport after you had left school.

Luckily school sport has changed and pupils now days have more opportunities than ever to take part in new and exciting activities during lessons and after school clubs. This is as a result of the Barlby School Sport Partnerships plan to encourage young people to take up sport and physical activity. The School Sport Partnerships aim is that "all children, whatever their circumstances or abilities should be able to participate in and enjoy physical education and sport".
